Balancing Baby and Recruitment: My Story as a Recruiter Heading into Maternity Leave

If you had asked me a year ago what 2025 would look like, I would have painted you a picture of continued momentum in my recruitment career; growing teams, partnering with incredible clients, and maybe squeezing in a few weekend getaways. I definitely wouldn’t have predicted I’d be writing this with a baby on the way!
This pregnancy was an amazing and wonderful surprise, and if I’m being honest, it’s been a whirlwind of emotions, from excitement and curiosity to the very real nerves that come with the unknown. But through it all, I’ve been deeply grateful for the support I’ve received, from my family, the team at work, my clients, and the amazing culture we’ve built at TRS.
Pregnancy in a People-Focused Role
As a recruiter, I spend my days helping people throughout the transitions in their own careers. It’s a job that requires empathy, strategy, and the ability to see the big picture. Now, I find myself living through one of the biggest transitions of my own life. It’s humbling and, at times, surreal.
Working from home has been such a gift during this chapter. It’s allowed me to stay connected and productive while also tuning into my needs of and my growing baby (and let’s be real, sneaking in those much-needed snack breaks and naps!).
I’ve found a new rhythm; one that’s more forgiving, more flexible, but still focused and purposeful.
What’s really struck me is how empowering it feels to be trusted. My clients have been incredible, supportive, understanding, and kind. They ask how I’m doing; they cheer me on, and they’ve reminded me that business is personal. People matter. And in recruitment, relationships are everything.
Preparing for Maternity Leave with Purpose and Pride
As I prepare to step away on maternity leave, I’ve been focused on setting up my desk and my clients for success. I care deeply about the work we do, and I want this transition to feel smooth. I’ve also had some reflective moments; realising that for all the effort I put into supporting others through change, I now get to practice what I preach: letting go, trusting the process, and embracing the unknown with a little bit of grace.
I don’t know exactly what motherhood will look like for me, but I do know this: I’m proud of what I’ve built, both in my career and now, quite literally, in life. And I’ll be back, with new stories, new perspectives, and probably a whole new level of multitasking skills!
To my fellow recruiters, working mums, and women on their own unique paths: you’ve got this. And if you ever need a cheerleader, you know where to find me!
